Ahhh the State of AaaaaaaaLasssssKkkaaaaaa. As any airframes left behind from the World War Two era now belong to the USS Alaska, I wonder if the extra stuff that was left behind belongs to AaaaaaaaLasssssKkkaaaaaa? I imagine that there was a lot of stuff that was buried when the US Military left the AO (area of operation). Easier to bury it than load it up and bring it home.

That B-24 was recovered I believe and is now on display at Hill AFB museum? There was a TV show on the recovery of the wreck.

Yup, I saw that show too! Here is a link to a fellow that has spent many summers digging for "gold" in Alaska, P-38 and P-40 bits....very interesting

Sometime back in the 90s I took a tour of the NMUSAF storage building. They had a large pile of aircraft wreckage (too mangled to identify from a brief glance in a dark warehouse) that we were told was pulled out of the Aleutians as part of a recovery project.

Isn't there supposedly another relatively intact B-24 laying up there somewhere?

Does the PV-1 have two "Stars and bars" on each side? That is a very cool paint job, I'd love to see one painted up like that. I'd also wish for more PV-1 /PV-2 were flying around.

Great pictures! I wish there was more shows and books about that front during the war. The crews deserve much more honor for what they did!
