Do any Pacific P-51s survive?

Fri Jan 01, 2010 3:38 pm

Just finished watching "The Last Bomb" on Charter On-Demand (found on the Smithsonian Aviation menu). Lots of good, color footage from Combat Camera, some of it has been used in numerous documentaries, some I had not seen.

This begs the question: Do any actual P-51s that flew B-29 escort survive to this day?

I'm told there is a (currently) bare metal P51 that until fairly recently showed evidence that at least part of it is a Pacific bird. However, I'm still waiting to see the photos that alledgedly show this.
