Like that snow shadow! Is that a homemade canopy or some kind of weird cover on it? Looks like she could use a little TLC.

Hmmmmmm, was it donated to the VFW, or on loan from the NMUSAF?

I don't know the details of the agreement but as long as the VFW doesn't try to sell it they should be fine. Yeah she needs some work. That is not a real canopy.

Cockpit canopy look a bit strange to me or just an illusion caused by snow over it and background? Anyway you have nice neighborhood

I like the swept-wing silhouette that the airframe made in the snow.

Just wondering about the arrangement because if they own it outright, perhaps they might be interested in trading it for another, easier to keep up, memorial.

In general terms, all the city/VFW/American Legion displayed USAF aircraft were U.S. Air Force property and kept track of by MASDC and its successor AMARC (now AMARG) until the mid 1990's, at which time the USAF Museum (now NMUSAF) became the "owner" of these aircraft. I used to periodocally obtain copies of the list of these aircraft from AMARC, but I haven't dug out these old lists to check on the particular aircraft mentioned in this thread, but I suspect it is on the list and owned by NMUSAF.

When I was a kid I bought some models and tools from a mail order outfit I found in a magazine. They had a little newsletter/catalogue and I remember that they were prominent in restoring that F-86 to honor Jim Kasler a Korean Ace and Vietnam POW. It looked pretty sharp back then.

Thanks for photographing that poor old girl, Chris. I hesitate to even post anything when I see a Sabrejet sinking into the ground. I realize that there is no way I can get my hands on it, but I'd sure like to see it properly preserved or sitting in our hangar. If only there were enough funding and manpower.......

Interesting shot, looks like you might've found yourself a little project once things warm up around there! As an aside, my first reaction when reading the title of your post was, "Son, you need to mow your yard more often."
