Warbirds or antiques in the Naples FL area?

Sun Jan 10, 2010 12:39 am

My parents are down in Naples for two weeks with John Cournoyer and his wife and I was just wandering if there are any fun airports for them to check out. I'm sure Big Al and John will get tired of sitting on the beach after a few days. Of course with the current temps down there, I doubt they are hanging out on the beach anyway. Still, I'm sure it's warmer there than St. Louis. The day started out at 3 F. Not exactly Stearman weather.

There is a US Sport Aviation Expo up in Sebring a little later this month.

Fantasy of Flight is a bit more of a drive.

Check out Homer Helter's Antique and Military Mall located at 5510 Shirley St (I know, dont call me shirley) there in Naples. Lots of neat military stuff on display and for sale. Many veterans hang out there to swap stories and they are more than willing to strike up a conversation with the customers.

Not much in Naples, but there may be something to look at to the north...

If they are still going to be there the 25th thru the 27th of January, The Collings Foundation will have the B-17, B-24 and P-51 in Fort Myers which is just a short drive to the North.
