Texas Air Command F-86's

Does anyone know what happened to the Texas Air Command(I think that's what it was called)? The last I heard (and this was in the Nineties) they were restoring aircraft, including an F-86 out at Arlington Municipal Airport. There was a charity tie-in as well. Anyone know what the status is on those aircraft?

I was around for the TAC beginning and breakup.

One F-86 is currently for sale...last seen at the Reno races. (N860AG)
One F-86 is at Spinks Fort Worth airport...last seen on static display at their open house in November. (N86NA)
One F-86 is in the Vintage Flying Museum hanger awaiting an infusion of cash for a return to flight.... (N8630)

One T-33 was sold and went to Denmark (N49239)

The other is still under restoration, I think...

The T-6 is with the VFM...needs a little love.... (N101NZ)

The Stearman is registered in Missouri (N17PY)

The UH-1 is in the Smithsonian American History Museum. (N565TX)

The OH-58's are registered to new owners in Denton, TX. I haven't seen them since 1994-5 (N581TX and N582TX)

The Hunter is flying military contract work with Northern Lights. (C-GZIB)

The DC-3 is registered in Texas and last word is that it was to be painted as it was on D-Day... (N5106X)

The charity angle was for the David Nickolas Organ Donor Awareness Foundation.

There was great promise in this new group we went to a bunch of airshows and had a great bunch of folks....it didn't work out...rats...

I know that at least one of thier F-86's and a T-33 were on static at the Spinks Airport Fly In a few months ago. Didn't look like much had been done to them and I didn't see any type of sign or anything advertising who they belonged to or anything. We have one of the 3 F-86F's that were originally part of that group brought up from Bolivia on display in the VFM hangar.

It indeed is painted as it was on D-Day and very nicely done. Owned by Scott Glover and lives in Mount Pleasant on a very nice grass strip.

Hey Zane,

what is/was the connection between the Texas Air Command and Charles Osborn's place at Clark County Airport just north of Louisville, KY?

I have been uploading some old VHS stuff (converted to dvd) to YouTube and shot a couple of minutes of film in 1994 outside the restoration hangar there. They had just rolled out their FG-1D but the T-33 above was there also. The video is only about 2 minutes long.

I attended the Aviation Heritage shows there in 94 and 95 and saw a Bolivian F-86...might've been the same one in your picture. I also remember seeing a couple of Sabre fuselages in the hangar and had the thought then that they might've been a source for spares.

From what I understand and remember, Osborn was the big money guy behind the TAC acquisitions. I never saw him in Arlington, although he may have come to town at times.
