Pima Project Updates?

Tue Feb 09, 2010 12:38 am

I know this sounds trivial, but I wish Pima would update there restoration section more often. It's been two months now and no update, did their photog quit or are there problems over there? I just want to know, I look forward to there progress on the aircraft they have been redoing. Any info would be appreciated thanks. :)

I would imagine something really cool should be showing up soon and then maybe an update.

I was interested in the P-51, and the P-39.

We have been having some technical issues regarding the uploading of photos since the change to the new website format. We've also been reviewing whether or not to continue with the current updates or try something different. Once we've got a handle on those issues, especially the uploading glitch we will restart the updates.

Just to keep you up to date: The P-51 has been moved to our main restoration building and is undergoing final assembly, and engine installation. We should be ready to start painting it in the near future. The P-39 has been moved into the area formerly occupied by the Mustang. We haven't done much other than lay parts out and figure out what we need to fabricate. Work on it will really start as soon as the P-51 is handed over to the painters.

Other projects underway are the repainting of our F-4E into its original Thunderbird markings and the repair and reassembly of our Canadair Sabre.

I know the updates are quite popular and we are working to try to get them going again as soon as possible.

Pony up the millions of $$ needed to get a 4 engined bomber in this condition air worthy and you might get what 'you want'
We all got what 'we wanted' when the aircraft sailed out of Lae, so lets be thankful with that, rather than pissing and moaning about what will happen with it in the short term.
An injection of 'realism' by some now and then wouldn't hurt

Im not complaining Dave. Glad its leaving but that is just one aircraft out of thousands still where they crashed. BTW: I helped sponser the Swamp Ghost a few years back along with a team with the goal that if she was recovered she would be restored to flying. So I got money invested in this. She is complete and in good condition.

HTH,
Nate :)

Absurd!  Well I guess we need the high in the sky idealists and the down to earth based realisits. Otherwise this place would'nt be what it is.

Pima does not have a B-17. I believe the 390th Memorial Museum is merely located on the grounds, but their B-17 is not owned by Pima.

Re: Pima Project Updates?

I was under the impression that the B-17 was on loan to Pima and the BG raised the funds for restoration and the building she resides in.

On another note, tell me again, James, when are ya'll doing the engine runs on the B-36 ? :?

I think Rick H is correct, the B-17 is PIMA's, but the museum building and displays inside belong to the 390th.
