Photograhphy at Hendon

Fri Apr 22, 2005 4:45 pm

Last year at Hendon, I found some of the galleries to be quite dark. The little flash on my Canon EOS Digital Rebel wasn't bright enough to give me any decent pictures. Well...I/we'll be there again this year following Flying legends and I was wondering if any of you who are more photographically competent than I am, could tell me if adding a bigger flash to the hot shoe would give me better results. There are a number of planes there that I'd really like to have good pics of. Obviously, it would give me a bigger light source but, in your opinion, would it be sufficient to give me good results.
Any assist would be appreciated.

Mudge, adding a bigger flash may get you better results, but you'll get much better results by using a tripod and selecting F8 to F10 in shutter priority mode and using a cable release or the self timer to take nice long exposures.

I used a hot-shoe flash and a tripod and got good results using a slightly longer exposure and a mid range F-stop. I was there early on a week day and had no problem being issued a pass for the use of a tripod. If there is anything in particular you are after photowise maybe I can help..although the new Graham White Hangar and Milestones wasn't open when I was there in 2000.
