Chile Earth Quake

I got concerns today about the earthquake and the museum in Chile, they have the only N3N-1. Hope everything is ok.

I phoned Museo Aeronáutico today and I got no response. Aside from wishing that no preserved aircraft have resulted damaged, the international airport was destroyed, 147 people perished and I got no contact with my relatives in the South of the country yet.

Let's hope that if any aircraft were damaged, they will either repair them, or sell the salvage to someone who will repair/restore them (either to static or flight) instead of sending them to the scraper.

Indeed. This was a much stronger earthquake than Haiti. They were in a much better state to begin with, but a quake of this magnitude is just devastating. Of course we will be there. Our heavy lift capacity was under immense strain before the Haiti disaster. Pulling more away from troops in the field and under fire now....that is a bit of a scary thing. And our current head of Defense, MR Gates says we have plenty C-17s in the system, no need to get more going, we have plenty for what we do....REALLY!!!???

My understanding is that the Chile quake was 700 - 800 times stronger than the Haiti quake.

The good thing is that apparently this quake was centered much deeper than the Haiti quake, with dampens the shock and spreads it out a bit. I understand that so far Chile has not called for international aid..but I suppose that could change. For now all we can do is pray for those affected.

"I could give a toss about the planes, much as I love them." I agree completely. In retrospect, I'm sure nobody would seriously worry more about a machine, no matter how rare and valuable, ahead of human life.

I have many, many friends in neighbouring Argentina and at this point, I'm still trying to reach them.
