Yankee Air Museum F-86D

Sat May 07, 2005 10:00 pm

Hey all, looking for some information about the Yankee Museums F-86D. Its painted in 37 FIS markings, does anyone know if it was a actual 37th airplane????? Or can anyone tell me what the S/N is. My father wants to know. The 37th FIS "skinny indians" flew out of Ethan Allen AFB, here in Burlington VT.

I have written a book covering the 37th FIS operations in Burlington and through the rest of the 4711th Air Defense Wing (Griffiss AFB, Presque Isle AFB, Dow AFB). A few copies are still available.

Contact me off line if you are interested.

I was raised in Burlington and watched the 37th FIS P-51D's, F-86D's and F-102A's while I was in high school. Book based on interviews with about 200 aircraw and ground crew, and photos from them.

I will be away through next several days.

Bill - the book on the 37th FIS in Vermont is excellent. Some outstanding color shots of the "show piece" F-86D's are worth the price of this book.

The F-86D/L at the Yankee Air Museum in Michigan and the one at the Air Power Park in Hampton, VA both appear to have the markings and colors of those 37th FIS airplanes.
