New England Warbird News!!!!!!!!!

Sun May 23, 2010 6:51 am

I heard a rumor out of AREA 71 here in VT that a N3N will be taking to the skies today for the 1st time for the 2010 flying season.

Weather indicates 75 deg and clear skies of both clouds and stearmans!!! :butthead:

Hi Jeff,

Don't mean to stear the subject away from New England based N3N's but I thought you might be interested in the pictures below. This is N3N N991PT which was recently imported to Chino from Florida. I was invited by a friend to a BBQ in Ken Wagner's hangar after the PoF airshow on Saturday and the N3N was present. It is registered to Wagner but is actually owned by a consortium of guys who are workng to get, and keep, her flying. I guess it had some sort of incident on the ferry flight from Florida which wiped out the landing gear but all is supposedly well now and I think it is back to airworthy. Anyway, I saw the bird in the hangar and thought of you so I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Regards,
Chad Veich

SOOOOOO, Jeff, would you be somehow intimately involved in that first flight of the year? I hope from a personal perspective that you are all mended up and think that pehaps you might be playing P.I.C. on that flight-fair skies buddy!
(and please include photos if you take any)

Thanks for posting the pics. I had read that a brake locked up and she went over on her back. I think at the time, she had the orig 30X5 wheels installed. Those look like BT wheels now so that is better, esp with that Pratt up front.

Dad was PIC today................she is home!!! Pics and vid later tonight. On the health, I have healed up nice, still have some muscle loss which was VERY apparent today trying to handprop the N!!!! I go back in for my final surgery on June 11th. I told the doc that I better be on the mend quick as I plan on being up front riding to a tailwheel fly-in seven days later!!!

1120 had the 30x5 wheels and the Lockheed brakes would get grabby every once in a while. I never had one lock up but had them grab hard with very little peddle pressure. Don

The original tires/wheels are in the hangar but I don't recall if they planned to refit them or not. I think the Texan wheels provide better ground handling for the "novice". From what my friend related to me the airpalne went off the runway and hit a railroad tie!

Thanks for checking in Don, good to hear from you.
