Sentimental Journey Central Nebraska Regional Airport 7/4/08

Thu Jun 10, 2010 8:19 am

First off I wanna say hi all! I've been browsing the forum for a couple of years and finally decided to join up
Here are a few pics I took when Sentimental Journey was in Grand Island, NE a couple of years ago giving rides for the weekend. Wish she was coming back to Nebraska this year... Best regards, Drew

Thanks for sharing. What a beautiful Fort.

It has been far too long since I have seen SJ in person. I hope she comes back to the East Coast for a bit.

I still remember crawling through SJ and the Arizona Wings HE-111 at an airshow.

Nine-O-Nine will be in Omaha for the weekend of July 16-19.

Looking at the picture of the chin and tail turrets got me wondering- why do alot of these turret guns have the anti-flash muzzles fitted? I've seen quite a few in archive pics and on restored warbirds like SJ, and I just wondered why they were fitted.

Great pics Drew, welcome to the forum! :)

I've often wondered the same thing. And why just the chin turret and tail guns?
Hopefully someone can share some insight on that one. I'm cluless.... :?

I took these two photos on 26 June 2002 just down the road at Kearney. The hangar was being prepped for a wonderful big-band hangar dance that evening.

This is the sole remaining WWII hangar at Kearney and was the Weight And Balance hangar when B-17s were being processed. Two Forts could be accomodated, loaded, weighed and prepped at a time. When Kearney AAF was tasked with B-29 processing this hangar was used to build up flyaway kits and as a liferaft inspection shop.
