AWW they did not buy it. I too thought their expert was a bit off on his numbers. He was listed as a commercial pilot and not a mechanic..The show did not show if this expert even looked at the wood wings............Hmmmmm. Hope others Wixers had seen it and will chime in. I thought 55K was not bad. Wonder where the airplane is now and how long ago this was taped as I have seen it on Ebay a couple of times.

He didn't have a clue what it was worth. Us Wixers should have been on the show. I think there is enough of us that know what thease planes our worth.

Usually they consult a fellow that is an A & P who actually does the work for them. I wonder why he wasn't called on this one...? Shows are usually taped many months in advance, so its not like the plane is floating around the area. I think the owner was heading back to the Carolinas with it if he couldn't sell it.

They've bought some other planes that were in worse shape than this one, and seemed focused on the types of things that go wrong on cars instead of airplanes. Interesting that they decided it needed to be recovered without any sort of testing to be sure. Their loss, somebody else's gain...!

At least they have airplanes on the show!!

Yea, the guy tacked on 30K for the engine just because it had not ran in 4 years. I think they mentioned that it was recovered in 1980 but yes no punch test was done or did he look at the structure. It looked pretty straight and atleast it was not damaged in a ground loop incident. Oh well maybe the Stinson was not for them. Maybe they are holding out for some ratty stearman to save :)

Thanks jack...still taking drugs and I was in a hurry to get it posted while it was on...........yes on the V-77..............Great flying airplane. I have been luck enought to get a ride in one!!!!! But some might give me grief as I had a choice that day on 2 airplanes that were going in the same direction as I had a ride all set to bring me back to FLL. The other was a PBY........I chose the Stinson. :D

I can't say I blame them for walking away from it with the scant information presented...BUT nobody asked to see the logs which could have answered a lot of questiuons for them and us viewers.

A friend is rebuilding a cabin WACO which I would guess has similar construction to the Stinson...it flew and looked okay when he bought it.
But to get it to his level of perfection is taking a lot of work...new fuselage wood, engine overhaul, of course new fabric, etc, etc.

The restoration of an older plane like that is a diffferent beast than the PA-28 they bought, restored, and sold last year.
Unlike that Piper (that any decent AP could revive), the restoration of a Stinson (with plenty of wood and fabric) is a job best left to someone with passion and who's in it for the long haul, not flipping it for a quick buck.

Please ignore my thread i just started on this. I didnt' check the next page to see if it already was here. Seems like there just want' enough info provided. If this project has been circulating around for a while already, could the show producers have brought it by just for the show? "The Old Man's" favorite comment is "you just never know what'll come thorugh that door."
I bet among the WIX faithful, someone here can score some history of this airframe.

The ''expert'' was a nucklehead! He didn't even know what kind of a/c it was.
Didn't examine the logs and made ignorant statements. "if the engine hasn't been
run in 4 years it's junk". The word pickled comes to mind. No examination, no punch
test of the fabric. Now, is he really stupid or did he buy it for himself or did they edit
it just to make him look stupid??

I am sure all those "pawns" are rehearsed and it was just a way to get a plane on. Last week he bought a wrecked helicopter and had it fixed in seems like a week and made thousands on it. Don't beleive half the crap they got on there.

my sister & bro inlaw were in vegas last week. the shop is alot smaller & dumpier than portrayed on the show. the pawn stars aren't in the shop every day either, as my sister asked where they were.

A few things...

Agreed on the Stinson... The guy looking at it has NO clue what he was doing.

I've been to the shop.... You know all the dumpy pawnshops you've been in... Well this is another of them. Met Chumley, Chum isn't anything like he acts on the show. He's really pretty sharp. Also met the OLD MAN. Yup, just like on the show, he's well.... rough....

I've also looked starting with the Piper Cherokee project... Search the web some... There was one frame that they didn't bleep out the N Number. It was registered to the guy that looked at it for them. I kind of doubted that it was the same plane. I found a post on another site that said the Cherokee was still sitting outside at N Las Vegas Airport... (anyone in the area that can confirm that one?). Same for the Hughes helicopter. Its supposed to still be wrecked and sitting in a hangar. I heard the 232 glider flight was crap since Chumley was too fat to sit in the front for weight and balance purposes.

I'll bet money the Shelby Cobra that was found in a storage locker was BS too. Do you just forget one of those? and then if you fnd it, do you sell it for $30k in cash, when they say its work $60k? Its interesting to read up on the POSSIBILITY that they stage a lot of the people coming with items. The 3 times I've been to there shop, there was never anything interesting like you see on TV in there..... Rick needs to tone it down some too. He get excited like everything that get brought in is a rare find and he HAS TO HAVE IT IN MY SHOP....

The nice thing is that if they buy anything or not, they still get tape to use on the show and I'll bet its darn cheap to produce. Only American Pickers hits a new low below them. (Hey want to sell that oil can for $2, I drove across the country to find that thing....)

Anyone else notice any problems with the show??

Yes. The rough Coca Cola vending machine they purchased and then purportedly had restored were two completely different models. I guess the producers justify what they feel makes good television. History channel? Not.
