Abbotsford Int'l Airshow 2010

Sat Aug 28, 2010 12:51 pm

This was my sixth Abby Airshow and quite possibly the best one i've been to there. The only complaint would be the heat (40C/104F in the grass, 50C/122F on the tarmac). It was he11 but it was worth it. I guess one more complaint would be the location of the sun but there's not much you can do about that. It moves from left to right in front of you all day so all the flying is backlit most of the time. I love the Snowbirds so they are always a highlight for me and their 2010 show was probably the best i've seen. The Thunderbirds are always impressive too. I'd say what really made the show was getting to see the Lancaster fly all three days and have the Hawk fly off the wing in honor of the 419 Squadron which both flew for. The Canadian Heritage Flight with the Gray Ghost Corsair, Hawk One and the Snowbird Tutor was cool too! It was actually supposed to be the Golden Centennaire Tutor but they had issues and it didn't go up until Sunday which is when the Corsair apparently had some issues. The Harvard group did some of their best formation flying as well.

Enjoy the pics!

Those are some seriously great photos. They put mine to shame.... by a considerable amount.

Can I ask you what kind of zoom lens you use? I Like how in each image the airplane fills the picture so well.

Peace,

David

Thanks all for the comments.

David, my zoom is a 55-250 IS which is all i've been able to afford so far. I do crop them where necessary to get the image i'd like.

Spectacular photography as always, Spooky -- and thanks as always for posting!

Anyone know the story that goes with that wild-n-crazy Luscombe?

Great stuff, Spook!

Despite the drive to making cost savings, it's still not recommended for pilots to act as their own wingwalker. ;)

I do believe it's this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luscombe_11

Designed to compete with the C-170.

I had to look it up and apparently it's a Luscombe T-8F. I'm not all that great at identifying the vintage stuff but I do like the looks of 'em.

Oh, I don't know about that, young feller, you just won a gunfight with Steve Dickey and he ain't no slouch. Good work, sir! I'm an old Luscombe fan, but have never seen nor heard of this one.
