The link between the BT-1/SBD, A-17, and Model 8A

The wing joint (and general arrangement of ribs, spars and stiffeners) used on the Northrop Aplha and designed by Jack Northrop was later used on the DC-2/DC-3 and SBD.

As a point of interest the Peruvian Air Force ordered 34 Douglas DB-8A-3P light bombers but apparently 31 of the order were 'acquired' by the USAAF prior to delivery. I checked the Peruvian AF Museum and they do not list one among their collection although they were still in the active inventory as of 1958. The USAAF redsesignated them as the A-33 and were used in minor roles stateside. Some were based at Las Vegas AAFld as trainers, others as target tugs.
