Day 5 with the Tankers - "Sunny Side Up"

Sat Sep 11, 2010 12:24 am

Day 5 with the Tankers

Today was another slow afternoon at the airfield. The winds that were forecast last night for the Fourmile fire area did not materialize, much to the relief of the people living to the west of Boulder. The lines are holding for now and the fire is about 45% contained.

BUT……..as the pilots have said………one hot day with strong winds and the fire can start all over again.

So today was another “sunny side up” day.

Great Photos! Thanks for sharing. I got a message from my cousin this morning. He is firefighter out there on the ground. As per him there are 800+ firefighter on the ground and they are sleeping in the open. According to him the fire lines are holding.
You really have to appreciate what these guys walk into. These are real heroes in my book.

Thanks for those pictures. Used to work at an airport in NM that was a fire attack base. Some years there would be a lot of activity and other's not so much. Brings back a lot of good memories :D

How do the pilots get paid and how much? Do they get paid by the flying hour, the job, per the year?
