Interesting comm. Flew out of Grissom with the 434th in the 60s/70s. I was in the 72nd squadron and eventually with group command post.
Flew the C119s until they were taken for SEA conversion and the 71st was activated to fly them. Transitioned into the Blue Canoe (U3) then the O2
and finally the A37A/B. Drove many miles on the weekends and other times for extra active duty. Unfortunately I was not in a picture taking mode
at the time since I was in grad school w/family and my cameras were out of commission.
Started with the C119s when they were still at Bakalar AB in Columbus, IN and then the group eventually moved to Grissom.
On active duty for 5-6 years I flew USAF rescue helicopters (HH43 B/F). Flying the C119 was like
flying a BIG truck after flying a sports car.
