Charlottesville, VA Warbirds (c1970)?

Fri Sep 17, 2010 12:35 pm

Are there any WIXers who happened to be around the Charlottesville, VA area during the late-1960s / early-1970s? I've been pretty well stumped trying to find information on an architect named Joseph T. Norris who apparently maintained a warbird collection under the name 'Air & Space Museum' in Charlottesville during that time.

I'm fairly certain these would have been an operational warbird collection, so I figure any enthusiasts around the area during that time should have seen or maybe even photographed whatever activity was taking place there. I'd love to hear from anyone who has any info on this guy, or any other warbird activity in the area around 1970. Thanks!

Rob,

I have the Veteran and Vintage Aircraft book by Leslie Hunt. It lists the Charlottesville Museum as opening in 1970 and only list's two airplanes
a F4U-7 # 133710 and a FG-1D # 92246.
Hope this helps.

Oooh, that's very interesting. I never would have pictured those two Corsairs under the same roof at that time. Does the book mention any other details about the museum other than the name, opening date, and the two Corsairs?

Rob,

That was the only info, he was looking for the museum hours and exhibits.
