Ollie's Wings over Gatineau

Tue Sep 21, 2010 8:04 pm

I attended and flew in the September air show organized by Vintage Wings of Canada. It featured the CWH Avro Lancaster as well as the start of a partnership with the EAA to hopefully become Canada's Oshkosh.

The light was superb on the Friday when we arrived, but we feared the worst on the Saturday morning with thick fog covering the airfield, fittingly hosting a Spitfire and a Hurricane on the ramp. :)

Anyways, here are the results!

Thanks for posting! I wanted to go but couldn't... I was worried I wouldn't make it before the flights started but with the fog perhaps I wouldn't have missed it after all.

Hey Ollie!

It was amazing from the inside. And it was nice to see you up in the 149.

I was very pleased to be tasked for so many flights in the P-40. Between the displays, plus the sponsor flights, I flew my a$$ off. Came home on Sunday in the Fairchild, then slept for 12 hours.

On Sunday, when the Spitfire went u/s, I was the substitute, and ended up #3 in a vic, staring at the Corsair from close quarters. Wonderful thing to be part of.

There are a couple of youtube clips already, of the Sunday Battle of Britain Day formation of Lancaster and 4 fighters, then the 2nd flypast of that event with Lanc plus vic of 3.

Hi Dave,

it was fun to see you fly the P-40, you sure looked like you enjoyed yourself!

I remember flying as a photo ship on the BoB flypasts a few years back, priceless memories!

Looks like a fun show! Good shots! Love the full prop arcs.

And that second video shot from the trees off the approach end is way cool!

Don't miss it!

Ollie I was one of the mashallers that parked you on arrival Friday...then parked you again when we had to shuffle you around the ramp. It certainly was a fun show.

I took some pics on Saturday morning when the airport was socked in by fog. Made for some cool effects.

I also got to meet Bill "Turbo" Tarling which was really cool for me. He's an ex military pilot with thousands and thouseands of hours especially in the T-33. He was there flying the privately owned CT-133 in the show in formation with the "Hawk One" Canadair Sabre which was flown by Bill Radiff.
