Corsairs over Connecticut

Sat Jun 04, 2005 11:45 am

Friday had 4 Corsairs at show under an overcast sky.

Gerald Beck's #310
AAM, Skyboss
Tom Duffy's, Marines Dream
Collings (static only, in hanger)

A 5th Corsair from Fighter Factory still in Virginia due to weather on
east coast.

Lots of Corsair pilots on hand at Sikorsky Field.
Igor Sikorsky's son on hand also and spoke to crowd.
All had very interesting stories.

A thanks to Jerry O'Neill (Airdale) who had his hands full on Friday
but did a great job.

Some photos below and more HERE

Looking forward to seeing posts and photos from Saturday and Sunday.

Bill

whats the story on the corsair on the stick??? not a flyable airframe???

Mon Jun 06, 2005 10:22 pm

N3Njeff:

That airframe is indeed Buno 92460 X FAS 617. Often confused with Buno 92690 XFAS 207 now inder restoration in Sta. Rosa, Calif.

When it came in to Bridgeport CT c. 1969 had an engine and a complete airframe. It has now a few parts MIA but it is still a candidate for a potencial restoration. It you look at it closely... it is in sad shape.

I heard someone offered the City of Bridgeport a fiberglass replica sometime ago but it was a no go deal. Perhaps with the right connections this bird can be put back at least indoors to salvage the airframe for a poss restoration.
