Phoenix Area Warbird Visits

I'm going to be out at Luke AFB for two weeks at the end of this month flying adversary against the F-16 students.
Aside from the CAF guys out at Falcon Field, what kinds of warbird stuff is there to see-n-do in the Phoenix area?

Deer Valley Airport has a number of L-39's, a MiG-17, about a dozen CJ-6's and several other warbirds based there. At the old Williams AFB, there are a number of A-4's used for training by a civilian business.

Near Chandler (I-10, Exit 164 if you are heading
either East or West) there is a closed airport. You can see the airplanes from the Interstate, lots of round engine stuff.
I have not been able to visit this place; there is no access road that I could find, other than one that runs parallel to a rain ditch, that leads to the end of a runway; the entrance was open, but there was a chain down on the ground, and I decided not to proceed any further.
I know that Nicolai Musante, from Denmark, was able to visit this place, and shot many photos.
Hercules C-130s, DC-6s and 7s, lots of goodies there.

Falcon Field of course, as already mentioned above, is a place to visit, but not just the CAF. There are so many interesting airplanes there; last time I was there, I saw three ex-Royal Navy Canberras, a couple of HU-16s, C-47, C-130 and on the Boeing Factory, several AH-64s that were bound for the UK.
I did not even try to access the locale, but shot a couple of pictures with telephoto.

Williams Gateway is also very interesting to visit. F-104 and a TV-2 (or is it T2V?) the Navy version of the T-33 were there.
Lastly, if you have the time, visit the Planes of Fame in Valley, near the Grand Canyon. It is worth the drive.

At GEU we have a DC-3, TBM-3, T-6, T-28. Our B-25 is at the CAF compound in Mesa.
Planes of Fame at Valle

Planes of Fame is having a fly-in June 24/25 at the Valle/Grand Canyon facility if you are still in the area that far out. Orientation flights are available to museum members in the B-25, P-51's, T-6, PT-17 etc. A great time and a great location to fly and hang out. Lots of great looking static stuff there as well!

At Deer Vally on north side of Airfield is Warbird Worldwide who import/maintain L39s and CJ-6s access to north side is restricted so best to contact them first see their web site for details www.warbirdworldwide.com

If you are talking about the field just south of Queen's Creek road in south Chandler, then that is Chandler Memorial. You have to turn south on the ag road right next to the nice paved road into the back side of the Intel complex. The main operator there is International Air Response. They have a number of C-130's, DC-6's and DC-7's. The 6's and 7's are going to be scrapped fairly soon. There are also a coupld of Harpoons there as well as very nice supposedly low time Howard 500.
I will probably be out there July 2 and 3 working on my Aero Commander that is stored there.
BTW, if you want to go out there, make sure that you go during business hours and stop in at the IAR office. They have had some problems out there and after hours the police are out there quite a bit. If you aren't known to IAR or one of the other couple of hangars out there and the PD picks you up, you will be spending some time in jail until it gets sorted out. I have to let them know when I am coming and who all I will have with me and the approximate hours that I will be working so that things can be coordinated with the PD guys that patrol the airport.

Thanks for all the inputs. Looks like I'll be going back to Falcon, at least, and down to Willy.
Since I'll actually be "working" (of you can call dogfighting F-16s work!) during the week, I'll only be sightseeing on the weekends which limits what kinds of trouble I'll be able to get into.

Prescott to the north (70-80 miles) has a lot of good stuff. P-51, Spitfire, C-47, T-6s, T-28s, Yak 11, CJs, Stearmans, L-39s, Beech 18, Spartan Executive etc etc. Plus warbirds are always stopping by. Sea Furies, Mustangs, Tigercats, Skyraider, Hellcats, Bearcat, Zero and P-38 recently.

I know that you are going to the Phoenix area to work.
BUT, if you get the chance and if you have never done so, you should go and see the Sedona area, North of Phoenix. It is, to put it simply, awesome. The scenery is really something else.
And, aviation-wise, there are bi-plane rides there . . .
