Just curious about the fate of the aircraft that the now closed Pate Museum of Transportation.....anyone seen anything concrete?

I have been keeping tabs on the HU-16 at USCG St Pete/Clearwater Airstation. They are in reassembly mode after doing some repair work. It will be a static display out at the gate when they are done.

Was glad to hear that one got a good home. The aircraft while at Pate were looking kinda rough the last time I was there. Never understood why museums felt the need to paint the canopy's....Noticed the Aircraft on the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi does the same thing......

So the sun's rays don't damage the cockpits.

The last time I went by (October) the C-119 and the F-101 were still there.

Dyess could use the C-119...to go along with its transport collection.
and Goodfellow could use the H-21 if it's still there. They were based there in the late 50s...used to pick up weather balloons IIRC.

Derek-- i recall reading once that particular F-86 was painted as 52-2030. My dad was assigned & flew that # F-86 in the mid 1950s. Got any info on this museum bird? (I seem to recall it was not its actual sn, but "painted as" at Barnes ANG base.

There was an HU-16 on a small ramp at the south end of the airport at Florence, SC, a year or so ago. You can see it on Bing Maps. It's minus engines and some control surfaces, but otherwise looks intact.
