my best guess?? --- looks like the front half of a hellcat thats torn in half on a carrier landing and gone over the side???

Yes-Ok,
It's a F6F of VF-37 that went over the side of the USS Sagamon off the Philippines in 1944. Yup, I'd be swimming my *ss of too!!!
I'm wondering though, what that tank is mounted on the rear of the bulkhead??? Can anyone answer that question???

I think that would be the tank for water injection. They started getting W.I. engines in 1943.
