Requesting Photos Of F4U-4's on Coral Sea ca.1952

Fri Dec 31, 2010 4:29 pm

Help,
I need a color copy of a VMF-211 Corsair #111, (AF) tailcode positioned on flightdeck of CV-43. This photo was taken from the ships island, looking down on aircraft preparing for launch. My grandad was aboard during this cruise. I need it to finish the markings on my 1/48 F4U-4 Corsair. It is in WIX Hanger under Korean War Era Corsairs, posted by Jack Cook. My Printer is down. Can you help? Thanks ,
Dane Alley

The carrier was on a regular deployment to the Mediterranean Sea with Carrier Air Group Four (CVG-4) from 19 Apr 1952 to 12 Oct 1952. VMF-211 was redesignated VMA-211 during that cruise. :f4u: HEY JACK, CAN YOU HELP THE GUY? (Jack does not do requests :D :D :D ) 8)

Guys,
Thanks I found it. It was a post from Oct.26,1009 , topic- Korean Era War Corsairs. Jack had posted it at 9:11pm. The pic I was looking for was #3. The other one you sent is from the Cruise Book. Which I actually have the original book from 1953. It is in my book cabinet in El Paso. I'm visiting grandad, grandma and my parents for Christmas. He's now 91 and may be the last surviving member from that Cruise left. Talking to him about his time in the Marine Reserves and service in the Navy in WW2 is what got me interested in Warbirds and Naval aviation. He was in the Pacific in the Island Hopping against Japan. So all the research that I done is my personal tribute to him. It is something that is very special to me and has formed a bond with him that most people inmy family haven't experienced. There are very few people that he talks to about his service to his country. Sincerely,Dane Alley "F4U-4 Nut"
