B-24 Liberator

Sun Feb 13, 2011 6:27 pm

Thought the members would enjoy this video on the B-24. Has a lot of seldom seen archive footage (some B-17 in here too) with some fast and furious machine gun action. This is combined with excellent HD footage of a restored B-24 with a very nice slow motion landing shot. New footage shot in Arizona.

Excellent stuff Capt. Lou, thanks for the link. One minor point, I'm guessing Scottsdale rather than Glendale for the Witchcraft video.

Cool video Capt Lou, and I know that took some time to put together......but....you accidentally slipped some B-17 footage in there! Hollywood would be so proud of you! :)

Yup, that's when she was in Scottsdale. You should come down to Marana just north of Tucson. It's a good time down there.

Yep, had some B-17 in there, figured it would be noticed! I was shooting at Marana (takeoff shot from inside plane), Scottsdale and Glendale. Sorry for mixup.

Say Capt Lou, been enjoying the videos. I was wondering what type camera your using?, seems to do excellent with the props! :D I am gonna get a camcorder soon and want to get one that doesn't stop the props!!
Thanks.

Steve,

I was using a Sony PMW EX3. The reason props stop or look odd is because the frame rate and shutter speed are not synced properly. Normally the frame rate will be half the shutter speed. If you are shooting at 24 frame per second shutter speed should be 1/48, 30 should be 1/60, etc. If you are using a video camera and set it to automatic then that will cause the prop image problems as rates are no longer synchronized properly. You need a camera with full manual controls. In the movie world this cannot be varied as fast moving objects will never look right to the eye.

I see a lot of otherwise great airplane videos ruined by this problem.

I strongly recommend the Canon 60D DSLR as it will do a fantastic job on HD video and is low in cost. You can use any Canon EOS lens with this as well as older Canon film camera lenses. A viewfinder adapter will also help with video work while using a DSLR. I sold my Sony EX3 and now use only the Canon 60D. You can also get excellent depth field with this camera which cannot be done with most conventional video cameras (including the EX3). Hope this was a help to you.

Thanks Lou. What would you recommend if I solely wanted to get a camcorder, with the aforementioned manual controls as part of the criteria? A sony? What are some number I should look for in the advertisement in the store?
Sorry for getting off topic. :(
