It's time for an OSHKOSH thread

Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:10 pm

Weatherman says another foot of snow is on the way, maybe more. :(

The only thing that's gonna' keep me from snapping is thinking about warbirds...hundreds of 'em...and only OSH has hundreds of 'em...so this is an OSH thread.

So what WIXers and warbirds are planning to attend?

Warbird schedules I've seen so far include:

CAF Helldiver
CAF Redtail P-51C
CAF B-25 "Devil Dog"
CAF A-26 "Lady Liberty"
Greg Shelton FM-2
Vintage Wings Lysander, Swordfish (Harvard, Finch, Tiger Moth)
WHF's P-51 and ______________?
John O'Connor's F8F has been mentioned
Ron Fagen's P-38/P-40/P-51 have been regulars

Who's next?

Dan,

Now that you are also in MN we can share the fear that SPRING may never come again. Thanks for some optimism. I plan to be there again this year, even if more gorillas show up.

Anyone know if the Fighter Hangar 1 aircraft will be there? I'm really glad to see Greg Shelton and the Wildcat coming back!

As is the case over the last 6 years - it's in my schedule the whole year prior to the show, but only confirmed about the week before. :)

Oh yeah, I'm not looking forward to the added snow tomorrow either...

This year is going to be a different year than I am used to and for many reasons. This is the first year that our friend Clair will not be with us. We are purchasing a memorial brick for him at the warbirds area. That is going to be the rough part. The good is that I have great friends (many I have made here) that will be there as well. We are coming up for the whole week this year. Bringing the Grissom Air Museum's B-17 tail stinger. We already have an approved display area. Should be fun as always. Clair would be jacked if he ever felt that we even considered not going on "his" trip. There will be a toast at the WIX party in his honor. I'd be honored to have as many of you there as possible.

You guys will have to take (and post) lots of pics! This was going to be my first year going to Oshkosh but a new job cancelled those plans. Now I have to live vicariously though others...

Will it be the first annual "Warbirds and Tilted Kilt" adventure this year?

I'll be there for sure and it looks like a few of my Cascade Warbird friends will be flying over as well. One of them for his first time!

Gonna be a good year at Oshkosh for us Canadians
EAA is going to commemorate the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in the Warbird area this year. :D
During WW2 Canada ran the BCATP and trained a huge majority of the allied aircrews from all countries. It was so big, FDR referred to Canada as the Aerodome of Democracy
They are calling out to all owners of BCATP Training aircraft to bring them to the event.
We are planning on bringing my Fleet Finch and one other to the show.
Maybe a couple of Tigermoths also.
There will also be a few other BCATP Training a/c on hand from Vintage Wings of Canada.
Hope to see some of you Wixers drop by our two Fleet Finches and say hi :)
