Pate Museum F-101B Voodoo on the move

Tue Apr 12, 2011 10:36 pm

Hello WIX,

I’m happy to report that the Pate Museum F-101B Voodoo has a new home. This past Saturday she was loaded onto a trailer (in one piece) and moved to her new home at the Tyler, Texas Historic Aviation Memorial Museum.

Thanks to an invite from Tom at Tyler, I was there Saturday at Pate to view their progress – I was surprised at the fact that the plane was loaded up in one piece. That was a very impressive sight to see.

Then early Sunday morning, Tom called me when the convoy was headed through Hillsboro where I live so I could see her on the move. What a sight to see! It was awesome and sure made my weekend! I can only imagine what people were thinking seeing the old Voodoo motoring through town :D It’s defiantly not something you see everyday.

My hat is off to Tom and the guys at the Tyler HAMM. They have a great crew and did a wonderful job getting the Voodoo loaded up and home and home safely. She will soon get the TLC she badly needs. Way to go guys!!

Here are some photos, enjoy!

Pretty neat sight rolling down the road.
Do you know if they're going to repaint it in RCAF/CAF colours or back to the original USAF scheme?

Yes, it was quite a sight to see!

Nothing definate for sure on the paint scheme yet. There was some talk when I was there Saturday for the 111th/147th Texas ANG colors being applied but, I guess it all depends on who donates the paint :)

How about 50/50? one side USAF and the other in CAF? The Canadians used them as much as the USAF did and that would give both sides of the story.

It really should stay in the full Canadian markings. IIRC it is one on the original batch that was delivered to the RCAF and never saw USAF service.

I wish we could get her for War Eagles! But, as it is now the F-84F is taking all of my time.

That aircraft would be an amazing airshow performer. If it was "free of USAF clutches" I believe there would be a company willing to take it.
