PV-2 in Autoweek

Mon Apr 25, 2011 11:08 pm

I'm a tech at a Chrysler dealer and I rarely ever pay attention to any of the stacks of promotional type literature laying around. I saw one of the guys thumbing through a free Autoweek Dodge promotional booklet today that must have just came out and I saw this. Thought it might be of interest. My scanner isn't big enough to do both pages of the magazine so some got cut off on both ends. Look familiar to anybody?

Wow! Yep, I do recognize that one...not sure of what year it is, but that is a Dodge Charger that has been customised, in stock Plumb Crazy Purple!!! Brings back the memories! By the way , there is a PV-2 behind the Charger, and make s the pic even more cool!

Sorry, I couldn't resist the last post...But in doing some research, I am not positive the posted Harpoon is 37216. There were a few Ralco PV-2's that had a similar painted nose and natural aluminum finish. I will have to do more checking, but I do not think that Duncan Miller and Earl Benedict's PV-2 have the torpedo camera port (skinned over) on the port side of the nose section as in the Dodge promo pic.
This is one of the few Harpoons that I have not seen personally and close up. If I had a better look at the nose of the Duncan-Earl PV, and could see that the port was covered...I would concur it's I.D. to be the one in the ad.

I think you are correct Gary. That is the Harpoon at Schelleville but it must be an old photo as she looks alot worse now. poor old gal.

Forgive me, as I'm not all that familiar with California topography....

Back in 1995 I was TDY to NAS Alameda for a week. I met up with a friend who lived in the area and we went up into the wine country in Sonoma on a drive...passing a little strip on the side of the highway (my guess is it was in the vacinity of Sears Point/Infineon Raceway) that had a couple of old sprayer PV-2's out in the weeds. I always wanted to go back and check them out but ran out of time. Is this, perhaps, Schelleville that you refer to?
