Get the Riedel running

Sun May 01, 2011 8:58 am

The German Riedel RBA / S10 turbine starter was a small two cylinder two stroke engine to start the BMW 003 and Junkers Jumo 004 turbojet engines, used in the first jets like Heinkel He 162, Messerschmitt Me 262, Arado Ar 234 as well as other prototype aircraft. The German Bernd Sobek restored one of these to running condition. See my video:

Excellent video! We were at a museum many years ago showing someone the pullcord in the inlet cone and an "expert" told me I was "full of $^@-- there's no motor in there". Hope he's watching this little guy run........

Is it true what I once read, that the Riedel was more troublesome to maintain than the Jumo it was attached to?

Thanks for the link,
Scott
