The problem with chino

I'm sure there are numerous other airports where this happens but I only know Chino. i was stripping paint off of T-6 bits today when someone taxied out his P-51 Mustang.Took off and proceeded to Buzz/Beat up the airfield. I didnt bother to even get up and watch ,let alone take pics .3 minutes later a T-6 landed and the Planes of Fame started and flew their P-51D.and I didnt stop stripping paint.You get jaded at Chino being surrounded by too much stuff going on. afterwards,I thought"people pay money to see this stuff" Then I picked up the brush and stripped more Zinc Chromate paint. Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! sad but true.

I'll let you have a copy of my bumper sticker - "P-51D - The Cessna 172 of the Warbird World"

When you have a sticker capturing the Cessna 150 as the P-51 of the general aviation world....Pleeeease..I wanna see that! :mrgreen:

Nah, the T-6 is the Cessna 150 of the Warbird World. Other way around? I don't think so!

I am sure you can get jaded if you are around warbirds all the time. I don't pay money to see P-51's or T-6's as I see them too often at too many air shows (although I don't mind seeing them in the mix of warbirds). I pay money for Chino (my second air show there this year) and other warbird shows to see Sabres, T-33's, Skyhawks, MiG's, FJ-4B Fury, Skyraiders, Bearcats, Tigercats, P-38's, P-47's B-29, and all the other great WWII and Post-WWII vintage warbirds out there. And I love the formations and mass flybys.

That tends to happen with just about any subject that you find yourself a part of. You start out a huge fan wanting to be on the inside...but once you spend years trying to GET inside, you realize that--while it's still fun and you still enjoy it--you tend to get blaze about the 'level of activity' that gets your attention.

I'm going to be the dissenting voice.

Okay, I don't work at a place like Chino day in and day out. Or even get to many airshows each year. But I see enough P-51s and T-6s not to get all excited about them, one would think.

But if there's one in the pattern, I look up and watch. Always. Same for a Tiger Moth, a Cessna 195, a Vagabond, or just about anything else that we would call a warbird, an antique or a classic.

A fine airplane overhead is like a glass of fine wine in your hand. Tastes just as good even if you've had it many times before. Nobody can force you to appreciate it properly, but it's smart to do so. As much of the stuff as there seems to be around, life throws curves; one never knows just how many times one can have this experience again.

Even with a C-140A, one can make the sounds of any warbird.... :wink:

yes,I do stop and watch and enjoy the beautiful sound of a packard built Merlin,then I picked the brush up and stripped more paint.

We're kind of stuffed in the back of the hangar so whenever a warbird takes off, we have to run to the front to catch a glimpse of it. It's gotten to the point where we try to guess who and what type of aircraft it is just by the sound.

you sir are so correct.same symptoms and actions.its just gets to be same ol-same 0l.sad but true.now I need a bouncer job at the gentlemans club in Reno
