L-39 Found

Mon Jun 27, 2005 1:03 pm

From today's accident run, the L-39 that was the subject
of an ALNOT (Alert Notice) on 10/19/04 was finally found near
Kittitas, Washington State over the weekend by a couple of
hikers.

The aircraft (N39TJ) departed Boeing Field (I believe) with a
destination of Lewiston, ID but disappeared from radar
and never showed up at the destination.

Interesting that it was found near Kittitas, as I believe the
initial search area (based upon raw radar return data) was
near the area of Cle Elum Lake / Easton (for those familiar
with the area).

My thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their loved
ones.

Were the pilot and passenger on board, or had they attempted to eject or bailout?

I don't know for sure, but am reasonably certain they stayed with
the aircraft (the initial report only says the two POB were
fatally injured).

As I recall, the weather that day was dog sh_t (they were
IFR over the Cascade mountains).
