A Carrier Veteran Passes today.

Sat May 28, 2011 5:15 pm

My father in law Ed Cokely was a 25 year Navy veteran (30 if you count 5 years as a civilian contractor). He passed away today at 93 years of age. Early in his career he served on USS Lexington CV-2 and later on USS Currituck AV-7. His last assignment was as Electrical Superintendent at New York Naval Shipyard on USS Independence CV-62. Ed also served on destroyers, cruisers, battleships, assault transports and submarine tenders. He was a small part of the battles of Midway and Okinawa and trained 2,500 men for submarine service. An all around great guy he loved baseball, his family, his church and the Navy all his life.
