Fifi photos

Sun Jun 12, 2011 8:07 pm

Here's a few photos of Fifi from her visit to Lunken airport in Cincinnati this weekend. Many thanks to the CAF crew for making it happen. We hope you enjoyed your stay!

BTW, it is ridiculously difficult to to take photos of aircraft using 3R at Lunken. I think I rollerbladed 8 miles today alone trying to get some pictures of her in the sky. I also took one of the most heartbreaking photos ever about a half second before she flew 50 feet over my head on approach. That half second was how long it took her to clear the tree that occupies most of that particular snapshot. Grr arrggh.

Anyway, enjoy!

Good stuff! I especially love the shot with the reflection in the control tower windows. Very artistic.

was fifi ever used in a movie?

Offhand, I can think of the TV movie "Enola Gay" and the film "The Right Stuff." She was painted with a black belly for the latter, and carried it for awhile afterward.

She used to have three little movie camera icons on the side, similar to mission marks, listing "Enola Gay," "The Right Stuff" and "Fat Man and Little Boy." I saw the last one, and while Ol' 927 (then "Diamond Lil") features prominently in a couple of scenes I don't recall seeing Fifi..those scenes may have ended up on the cutting room floor.

Tom: The folks at Cincinnati approached us with a deal that included covering many of our expenses, and a guaranteed revenue level. We also have had success at Lunken in the past, we are open to visiting just about anywhere if certain conditions are met. We also try to string together stops in a logical manner that will costs us a minimum in fuel in between stops.

We have been having a VERY good year so far, and look forward to continued success in Kansas City, Chicago, Oshkosh, St. Louis, and Memphis on our next swing!

When are you guys coming to St. Louis? And I would assume, it would be to Charles Lindbergh Airport in Chesterfield?
