B-17 Static Cockpit - nose section display - help needed

Fri Jun 17, 2011 11:16 pm

Hello everyone.

Been awhile since I last posted a message but this is the last place I can think of to ask for some help.
During WW2 Australia was used by many US aircraft types and we have a great National and Private collection to reflect this.
The only type we do not have anywhere (to my knowledge) is an example of the B-17 that operated out of numerous Northern bases here in Australia.

I was wondering, hoping and perhaps even praying that while I wait for a couple of other projects etc to come to fruition that I maybe able to dedicate some
time in collecting enough material to present a static display of this simply marvelous aircraft. I understand that this type is itself very popular within the USA
and many people may be against letting such materials leave their shores. But unless we have an example to show our kids, the efforts and achievements
of these aircraft and crews of the B-17 may fade over time. A bit corny I know but I really feel we need something here in Australia.
I am only looking for static materials. I'm happy to discuss this off line with anyone who wishes to contact me at peter@reevers.com.au.

many thanks

Peter Smythe

Perhaps a more cost-effective/realistic option would be the replica route. This was scratchbuilt by a fellow (not me) here in the States.

Thanks Dan

I have seen and followed this before and given this route some serious consideration. But I honestly thought I could locate an actual artifact.

I appreciate your feedback, would you happen to know the name of the fella involved?

cheers

Good luck in your search for this, and you will need even more luck getting somebody to part with it.

Exactly FF, I can't imagine that somebody would think that they could just approach someone else, who having spent so much time and money in scratchbuilding a complete cockpit for themself, would part with it just like that!!!!

You guys are so dramatic, I was asking about who had built this static for contact details cos its always better to speak to someone who has done it before than start from scratch. I clearly stated my thoughts in the opening request. I've had great asistance in matters similar to this before, ie putting museums in contact with each other to exchange ideas patterns and in some instances parts. But clearly constructive advice is thin on the ground in some parts.

You might be surprised sometimes at what some folks are willing to do for others. I have seen incredible things done when some thought it was impossible. Why not this?

So relax, and if you can not help, then step aside.

Good luck with your project, Digger!

bomberboy, if yoy can't, or in your case simply won't help. Get off the thread! This person is looking for assitance and not some BS about who will and who will not assist. Youv'e made 5 posts so far, so let this thread work it's way out. You may get an education!

Forgive my tardiness in responding, Peter.

Seems I got my cockpit projects confused. The B-17 replica is based in the UK, fruit of the labors of one David Littleton.

Here's a little more on the evolution (give it some time to load):

Perhaps you can reach him through the host site:

Happy hunting.

Many thanks for your encouraging words hawk!

Please point out in my post, where I have stated what you have obviously decided I did state on my behalf?
if you can find it, then i'll doff my hat to you sir for being far more word literate than myself and i'll duely apologise to the original poster for actively stating that I would not help him in his quest, but if you can't, then please kindly refrain yourself from posting what you have stated later in your own post as "BS". Thank You.

sgt hawk wrote:Get off the thread!
And you demand this on the authoritative forum position of..............oh, I didn't think so!!!!

sgt hawk wrote:This person is looking for assitance and not some BS about who will and who will not assist.
It's not BS if I know something is not available, but in hindsight perhaps I should have made my posting a little clearer as to what I was saying.
It was not my intention to state that assistance was not going to be forthcoming, but my post was in addition to FF's posting in front of mine which was on the basis that it is potentially going to be a long and expensive road in front of the thread originator.

sgt hawk wrote: Youv'e made 5 posts so far,
And what bloody hell on this earth has that got to do with anything????
An irrelevant observational comment as far as I am concerned.

sgt hawk wrote:You may get an education!
And I can see that you are obviously the right person to see that I do!
Alas I think not, i'm not afraid to say.
I may just know a little more than you have decided to give my knowledge base credit for and which I have decided in the interest of forum dacorum to leave it at that.

Digger, as mentioned and for clarity in this post, knowing what has been involved in something like this, it will be a long road etc etc, but so long as you prevail, you will enjoy the fruits of your labour even more, but you will have to stick with it.
Seeing the results of what can be achieved, it is always do-able and massively rewarding.
Best of luck.
