okay I am stumped on this

Saw this pic of a marauder and noticed, what appears as ducks for missions, I have seen whiskey bottles and other things, but ducks?

The ducks were for when they flew as 'diversions' for the actual bomber force.

As in "sitting ducks", it's like when our tankers would taxi out for a mission and return after not flying we would put penguines on ours.
