BT-13A Operating Costs

We ran a BT-13A for 6 or 7 years-- 1988--1995 or so...

Replaced one R-985 engine at the time was around $ 10,000 ( had 100 hours on it or so). Fuel runs an average of 20-22 gals an hour at 60-70% power; Figure 1100 hours on an overhaul and about 600 before you top it.

Main gear tires are $ 350 new plus $100 per main tube. Tail wheel tires were
about $100 plus tubes if you could get them. If you fly off a grass strip you will get great tire life if you keep then away from the sun. If not every 2-3 years you are looking at a set of tires...

Insurance varies with liability limits & hull if you choose to put hull on it. Plan about $ 2500 min with hull.

Prop overhaul will cost you around $1600 per cycle of say 500 hours.
Oil by the drum will cost you around $400 plus drum deposit.
Cost of capital tied up.....Hanger @ $ 350/ month probably....

If you are lucky you'll fly 60 hours a year??
