The Late Evening News From Duxford ~ July 10th 2011

Mon Jul 11, 2011 2:20 am

Phew ! My 14th straight day of taking pictures at Duxford !

I won't be sorry to stop lugging my camera bag around every day .....

I want to start this thread my sending out a huge thank you to all the staff and volunteers from all the organisations at Duxford who
have made this year's Flying Legends a superb show case for the warbird industry.

Guys and Gals ~ you gave us a fantastic airshow this weekend ! :drink3:

I can only really give you a flavor for what over 3 hours of warbird heaven looks like ~ here goes .....

Spitfire and Hurricane start to warm things up

Image

And then the Spitfire tail chase really gets things going

Image

Image

Image

Image

Let's not forget the Buchons

Image

Image

A trio of Skyraiders

Image

And then the Mustangs .....

Image

Image

B-17 ~ Sally B joins the fun

Image

Image

Let's not forget the Lancaster from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

Image

C-47's strut their stuff

Image

And so we come to the "Balbo" that end's the show .....

This is the first pass as the Red Bull P-38 and Corsair peel away from the back of the formation

Image

As the formation comes back in for the second pass ~ you can see the P-51 and Skyraider in the 3rd element

Image

The Skyraider seems to be trailing something ( smoke or vapour )

Image

And that's all the pix I took. The Balbo is not easy to photograph and it's nice to just stand there and drink it in as
the show ends for another year. The accident happened at the other end of the airfield and we were only aware there
was a problem when the crash crews scrambled and went racing down the airfield.

There was a real air of silence amongst the crowd and few people thought about leaving until it was announced that there
had been a mid-air collision. Both pilots were safe and the Skyraider and managed to recover to land at Duxford.

The P-51 remains are in a field less than a mile from my home ~ but the road is closed ~ so I haven't any pix of it.

I'll close this post with a picture from the Mustang section of the show ~ with "BBD" making what was to be her last landing

Image

All in all ~ a fantastic warbird show ~ and hopefully it's only 363 days until the next one !
