Anyone know why the RAF Valiant bomber in 1950s/60s had a RAAF Aussie marking on it?

Phil

G'day Phil,

The RAAF had three Valiants on loan for a few months in late 1961 until early 1962 for use with testing for the 'Blue Steel' bomb program. They were used from RAAF Edinburgh. One of them scored Aussie roundels as seen in the decal kit. It certainly would have been good for propaganda value, seeing the RAAF with a big modern jet bomber.

Cheers,
Matt

darn, that answer is a lot more boring than what I was expecting (despite involving nuclear weapons).

Check out the RNZAF Vulcan!

That's just fantastic... if you're gonna zap it, might as well go all in! :D I'd love to see that pic of the nine Kiwi Vulcans in formation!
