And another F4

Tue Jul 19, 2011 9:15 pm

Located this thru the Aerial Visual Locater and finally had a chance to get some pictures. I was pleasantly surprised to see what good shape it is in. Located in Northwest Houston.

The camouflage paint scheme on this F-4C does not appear to match any actual USAF pattern. It looks like it was painted without referring to any actual paint scheme whether USAF SEA camouflage, USAF European pattern or any other pattern that an actual USAF or Air National Guard Phantom was ever painted in.

Paint colors aside, she looks in good shape. Whats with the two cans behind her though?

They called us at CF-Houston. Said they needed to move onto concrete. She's been sitting on steel plates for years. We agreed to help them and were going to repaint it correctly, but they could never get their stuff together. I guess they decided to do it themselves and butchered it. The cockpits have been leaking and there's water standing on the floor and crud growing inside of the canopy.

Reading the info board, that's one fast F-4... it'll do in excess of Mark II!!!

Doesn't anyone proof read those things before going on display? Ugh...

I'm thinkin' that some paint store had a close out on green paint.

I agree about the proof reading. I am willing to let the paint stay if it means nobody turns it into soupcans or other stuff. Could be better, but could have been alot worse.

Baugher has nothing on it besides showing where it's parked now-does the tail # flick anyones BIC?

Re: And another F4 - medium green problem

Wed Jul 20, 2011 9:34 am

If you follow my post on the Newark OH F-4 resto process the medium green color on this bird is the same as what we applied last Saturday; much too light in color...

So we are going back to get more paint to get the medium green in the proper tone...just an extra hour to the schedule but we'll get it right... :D

Yeah, that paint colors and the hard lines makes it look like it was in foreign service, especially with no National Insignia.

The "two cans" are the afterburner cans.

You are right they are afterburner cans, but not F-4 cans. I believe they are F-111s.

It is next to a VFW hall roughly in the corner created by I10 and I45N . Nortwest intersection. But It might be 610 and I45N.

Rauhbatz, if you are here every week you might consider coming down to Ellington and taking a look at a correctly painted ( by the T.O. ) F-4. Just call me at 281 961 1062 and I'll take you in.

The F-4 s located @ the intersection of Alba Rd. and Fisher St. North of North Loop 610 West and west of IH-45.

There is another F-4 in Pasadena (kinda near Ellington) that has an F-4 I took pictures of in 2009. At the time it was in an OD camouflage pattern but the Aerial Visual Locator seems to show it painted in a Thunderbirds scheme.
