Weight of a 1950s nuclear weapon?

Wed Aug 24, 2011 11:02 am

The F-105 design was initiated in 1950 and the first production aircraft began delivery in 1958, I believe. The airplane was originally intended to carry a single nuclear weapon in its internal bomb bay, though this concept was soon superseded by other missions.

My question: How much would such a weapon have weighed? Anybody know?

Thank you for finding that excellent site. I should have known something like that would be out there...

I'll research the bay dimensions and check them against the listed bomb sizes.

I put the following website together to try and cover the various nukes in the U.S. inventory: http://www.angelfire.com/dc/jinxx1/Nukes/Nukes.html

It is something I add to and edit from time to time.
