What's your favorite all time Warbird photo shoot?

Fri Aug 26, 2011 6:16 pm

I'm going to try to post more and lurk less, so here's another go at trying to bring something interesting and entertaining to the WIX world.

What is your favorite all time warbird photo shoot of either your own or someone else's. (remember disclaimer for something not yours, don't want to get in trouble) mine? that fellow in the northwest by the name of spookythecat. Pretty amazing dude with a camera, If he was a fighter pilot with the same skills as he is with the camera, he'd be an ace several times over. I'd like to know the story behind that name as well lol

So lets see your very best of the best

And oops! I just realized I should have probably put this post somewhere else. Sorry in advance.

By far the best shot of a hellcat I've seen, don't know who owns this shot so I hope you don't mind me posting. What makes it's even better is it's pre-tramp stamp. lol

On Dec. 10, 2010, I did an air-to-air shoot with B-17G "Chuckie".

Again not mine, but a wonderful shot of the Grand Champion last year at EAA airventure. A to A shots are by far the best unless someone can beat it with a ground photo.

My favorite warbird photo shoot was when I got to do Air-To-Air of my dad when he started flying the Mustang!

2nd favorite when I soloed the T-6, him and I did a formation flight-photoshoot for Warbird Digest.

My wife took this one at our visit to Warhawks LLC to see "Twilight Tear". Wasn't planned, but somehow my youngest seeing his reflection in the 51 and reaching for it with his hand just seems to say so much more. It's what the warbirds and the history is about. Passing it on and allowing us to look into the past just a little bit. I like to think that Ben Davis, Lee Archer or any one of the other Red Tail 51 pilots is looking back at my little guy

My grandfather was a WW2 aviator, your son looks like an up and coming aviator as well. :D

From what I can see, neither enemy pilots nor young lasses will put up much of a fight against this guy!

Thanks for the kudos. There are many better photogs out there. I really like sharing my photos with all you here as well as seeing what the rest of you are shooting/seeing. I've only had the opportunity to do A2A a handful of times but getting the chance to shoot out of HFF's B-25 Grumpy definitely was special. I can never thank my friends there enough and hopefully i'll get the chance to do it again some day.

Here are a couple of the Spitfire from earlier in the year.

The Mustangs are from Vintage Aircraft Weekend last year.

And here are some from some smaller scale shoots.

My friends Chipmunk (R.I.P.) and a Twin and Classic Navion from the Navion in the previous picture.

Again, thank you to all who have made these photos possible. I truly appreciate it!

My favorite photo because this TBF Avenger was the first restoration project I was involved with, the first World War 2 aircraft I was involved with AND that's 18 year old me ground running her!! Taken in 1980 (yes I'm that old ha ha ha).

The last one, a couple of weeks back.
