Ill beat Chris to this.
Our own Bill Digney was one of the main guys on the building of the "Gutless Cutlass" Anyone want to put together a deal and have this beautiful aircraft donated ro the Connecticut Air and Space Center and have it returned to the Stratford / Bridgport area where she was first designed?

Not so. This one has been in the NW for many ear under slow-time restoration. There are also other various bits and pieces in private hands.

Item for discussion...

Anyone familiar with the Cutlass knows the biggest weak spot of the aircraft was the engines. If this were to be restored to airworthy condition, is there a modern, more reliable engine which would generate the same or higher amount of thrust and still dimensionally work within the airframe?

Another consideration is the fact that the airframe used a large amount of magnesium in it's construction, and mag and salt air do not get along, that was an issue when the aircraft was in service and deployed aboard ship, they corroded rapidly in the salt air and spray, this thing has been sitting in the MoF restoration facility @ KPAE 1 mile from Puget Sound (salt water and a humid, rainy climate) for about 15 years. Want to go flying in grandmas antique lace tablecloth?

They also had BIG issues with the hydraulic systems. Might need a little update on that, too ! But it would be soooo cool !

this would be an awesome flyer - albiet it would take a high time pilot with brass cajones! I think it was Wally Schierra who said the cutlass could out manuver anything else the navy had at the time.

Also capable of maneuvers that the pilot could not control, at least according to my Dad, who was a naval pilot of that era.
