Gone West: Ken Dahlberg

Wed Oct 05, 2011 6:35 pm

On the evening news they did a little story on Mr. Dahlberg, passed away today age 94. Does anyone have any pictures of him and/or his aircraft during ww2 they could share? He lived quite a storied life!

It was very sad to hear this. A truly great person, through and through, who definitely led an amazing life. Paul Ehlen's P-51D "Little Horse" is painted to honor Kenneth Dahlberg, though the markings are just of one of the aircraft he was known to have flown during WWII.

Thanks for posting the pictures, jack! Did he fly p-51's first and end the war flying p-47's or was it the other way around? That's a long line of victory markings

Wasn't he on some of the Mustang shows on the History Channel when it was actually the history channel? RIP sir, I really hate reading news like this.

The 354th FG flew P-51s until start of winter 1944 when the switched to P-47s.
They reverted to P-51s in early 1945. Dahlberg never had a assigned P-51 but
is often connected with others who've been IDed has his which they weren't.

LOL Jack, I thought the caption said Corp. Spiro. Clearly the smoking gun! :)

Mr. Dahlberg's passing has been covered well here in Minnesota

This very well-known painting by Roy Grinnell, depicts Dahlberg flying "Beantown Banshee" on one of his earliest sorties, chronicling his second victory I believe. The aircraft however was mainly attached to Capt. Felix Rogers. One of the Mustangs most often attached with Dahlberg, is a P-51B that was named "SHELLELAGH".

PbyCat-Guy, he was one of the focuses in the "Dogfights" episode on the P-47.

another sad loss of a great hero.

I wouldn't say it's a sad loss.
He lived a long, full and rich life.
He'll be long remembered for all he accomplished and for all the lives he touched.
I don't think that's sad at all.

I'd have to fully agree with you there, Jack. He lived a big life. Thank you for the information on his fighter group's aircraft as well.

It's not sad when someone passes away? Regardless if anyone lives a short life or lives to be 109, it's sad that were losing wonderful veterans of any wars.
