More P-51 Mustang news from Down Under

For people outside Australia who like all things piston and loud - especially Mustangs, the news is good to know that there is active work , tho tedious and slow on a few CAC Mustangs airframes under way with the hope to one day see these fly again.

Various aircraft are being worked on with components in rebuild and overhaul according to information passed onto me.

The airframes mentioned are CAC Mustang A68 - 71 , 104 and 120.

The Mustang connection with the RAAF started in WW2 as loan machines P-51D / K and after war Australia licensed built a few more.
These pure Aussie Mustangs then went on to serve in the Korean War flying all over Korea doing mainly CAS missions and escorting B-29s into North Korea on other missions. These Mustangs flew in Korea for a short time and by 1951 the Meteor jet took over.

The last RAAF Mustangs managed to make the early 1960s in reserve squadrons before mostly meeting the scrapman.
Only a few survived and remain with us today thankfully and these survivors will one day regain their position in the sky again.

I think you will find no Australian / CAC built Mustangs served in Korea, and that instead these aircraft you are referring to were all US built P-51's operated by the RAAF in Korea until the introduction of the Meteor into service.
