Leave it to Boeing to make a great product!

Tue Nov 01, 2011 2:27 pm

A 767 greased a wheels up landing. Look's like the engines are keeping the entire body off the ground on landing! Amazing!

Wow, they really greased it on there!

Great piloting, especially when you're aiming to flare at a different height, and while doing an approach with a significantly reduced drag profile without the gear being down.

Despite unfamiliar variables, they did it incredibly well.

Peace,

be much better if Boeing had designed a system to allow the wheels to come down!

IIRC back when Pan Am was operating Boeing 737-200's on the Berlin Corridor Route, one made a touch and go on the engine nacelles with only minor scratching on the nacelle bottoms. His next approach and landing with the gear down was uneventful. As we said in those days "The world's most experienced airline (which is what PanAm advertised itself) just got a little more experience"!

I'm thinking an avionics issue preventing the gear module from operating, the gear is designed so that if you can get the handle 'down' the gear will unlock and will fall out and into 'down and locked', but if Mr. electricilty is having a hissy fit, nothing will happen no matter what language you are cussing in-

I guess they should have gotten the option for the roller skates on the bottom of the cowlings.

I saw posts elsewhere speaking of a hydraulics failure, but seeing the flaps out and spoilers working means it wasn't hydraulic. Definitely something interesting going on. Will be waiting to hear the full report on what happened as it's very unusual for any modern jetliner to not be able to extend the gear.

LMFAO!!!!

That is precisely what i thought of when I read this post.., such a great 'product'? ..., make the landing gear functional!

You two must be scarebus aficionados. Where should we start? How about the bonded vertical that won't stay bonded? :axe:

Careful.

The NTSB concluded that the material had failed because it had been stressed beyond its design limit.

Nothing wrong with vertical bonded tails.

Ask Boeing.., they are using it on the 787 are they not?

Too bad the Poles didn't have three Toyota pickups to help with the landing like in the commercial.

Used to be years ago that the Federal Trade Commision enforced an advertising policy wherein, if you claimed in an ad that your product would or could do X, you better be ready to prove it real time. That policy cost BMC several MG MIDGETS a bunch of years ago when their TV ads showed a 'SPRIDGET' being parachuted out the back of a C-123, landing on it's wheels and Mr. & Mrs. Geeswell chuting in and driving the car off, MG flattened about 12 cars before they got exactly 1 correct.
That NISSAN ad obviously is using gen 2 CGI judging by the folded paper appearing '727' and they should have contacted the guy who did the AMERICAN DC-10/Jeep on the Freeway viral video of a few years ago, that was better done.

The Airbus would have had a system that would check the problem, fix the gear issue, then automatically deploy the landing gear and then make a nice final approach before landing in the woods.
