Anyone else watching Vietnam in HD?

I started watchingit and man it is kind of rough to watch at points. Amazing video, and the veterans that are on hand talking about it make it that much better. I have a new respect for everyone that served.

I have caught bits and pieces through out the day. A very compelling series.

Much of that history occurred when I was a kid, by the time turned 18 the war was "over". I do remember watching the evening news with my father and seeing the nightly reports on Vietnam.

Not to perspire! They are going to run it all in sequence a couple of times Friday 11/11/11 and TMC will show it over and over in the months to come-now if PBS would re run the '10,000 day war' series of years ago

We are getting some of this first hand flying the CF Huey around. During Tet our Huey's logbooks actually state that it was doing gunship and medivac runs. It is amazing to think that I'm getting to fly her some. She's just a little Huey, but man does she bring up some deep feelings from her fellow Vets !

There was a show on the Military channel last night about the vets coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan and how many of them are suffering from PTSD. Very compelling and also hard to watch at times.

You can make it up....Just ask them and they will tell you two things............Dont let it happen again and dont forget!!

Their time is here and in many ways its not being forgotten, From Me with my vehicles to Karen with her O-2,the CF with the Huey, F-4, F-100, A-4 and to the group with "Special K". We all have a common goal. As a close friend once told me "when I came home from Vietnam, I put it in a shoe box and placed it up on the shelf in the closet". Keep preserving the history and you will get to hear " you helped me take down that shoe box and open it up".

Don't forget Rick Sharpe and his Viet Nam War Museum. Rick operates AD-1, Spooky gunship, UH-1H Huey, A-26, and just added a 2 place Mig 21 ! He's the guy who spearheaded the Viet Nam re enactments down here in Texas. We've flown them at Wings Over Houston, Central Texas Airshow in Temple, TX, and Randolph AFB.

Like Clifford, I gew up in the Vietnam era and lived it via the TV and radio news, newspapers, and magazines. When I was a kid in school, I periodically heard about a classmate's father, uncle, cousin, or older brother being killed or wounded or going MIA somewhere in SE Asia. The anti-war protests were everywhere, and I recall seeing TV news footage showing American soldiers here in the States having trash thrown at them and being jeered at and taunted by protesters. Those were bad times in many ways. Today, it's good to see that the veterans of that dark time are finally being shown the respect and compassion that I think they deserve, albeit decades late.

To all American veterans throughout history who've served our country's interests and protected our freedom and our way of life: THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

what a program, my older brother, was in vietman for 18 months, never will talk about it,

I used to work with a guy who was stationed at fire bases, can't remember what he did there, but he said that he could sleep through the 105's going off. But, if a machine gun or any other small arms went off he would be wide awake.
Those men and women went through a lot, and if I find out that they were there or any veteran for that matter, I promptly shake their hand and thank them for their service.

I have it saved, but I have to watch it by myself, my wife can't stand to watch it, just too gruesome for her...
I was just a young squirt while it was happening, but I vividly remember worrying that my older brother might have to go.

After 9/11 I was furloughed from the airlines. I found myself working as a night manager of a Wallgreens. I was working one 4th of July when a gentleman came in to do some shopping with his wife for their cook out. I noticed he had a hat on that said Veteran. upon check out I asked him what branch he was in and he said that he had served in the Marines during Vietnam. I asked what he did, and to my surprise he said Tunnel Rat. My god I thought. One of the items was an American Flag and hanging kit, the type for a porch. I told him I couldn't charge him for that, and wrote it off. He was so thrilled to get that flag for free. I was an assistant manager, so I had to tell my manager what I did, and he just smiled, and said, you did the right thing.
My father was in Vietnam and for years only said that he was a cook. Years later we found out that my father had been drafted and during basic qualified as a marksman. He won't really tell us a ton more. For years part of my family did not talk because my aunt was anti-war and when my father came home and called to let everyone know he was home, my aunt answered and said he needed to find a ride home from the airport becasue she wouldn't come and get him. He wouldn't talk to her for the next 20 years.
