Visit to Dallas/ Ft. Worth

Mon Jul 18, 2005 10:32 pm

Last wekk I took a trip down south and was able to visit a few Museums.
On Thursday I went to the Frontiers of Flight at love Field and visited there, it was Okay the only problem was that they had an event and all the displays and aircraft were pushed to the sides and one corner. The indoor aircraft were in good shape. they did not have any WW 2 stuff there, kinda dissappointed.
On Friday I was in for a suprise. I visit the Cavanuagh Flight Museum and was very Impressed. The displays were good, and the aircraft are immaculate. This rates in the top 3 museums that I have visited. The staff was very nice. The maintenance crew are doing a fantastic job on the corsair as el as keeping the rest of the fleet airworthy. I was able to tlak to one of the maintenance guys for awhile, as he was busy getting stuff ready to ship out for the Corsair. I would reccomend going to this museum.
On Saturday I stopped by the Vintage Flying Museum, before a weding and was suprised here as well. even though the sircraft are not in pristine shape they had a good deal of them. They also had a FAC convention going on so there were alot more aircraft there then usaul. They had an overflight of Yaks. They also had two Airworthy OV-10's One civilian owned the other came up from South America. The B-17 Looked good on the outside, but is a little rough on the inside.
I have some pictures posted from these places here

Cavanaugh is first class for sure. I am going to go broke going over there so often since I just moved in across the street from the airport. I guess I should go see about volunteering. I keep secretly wishing they would get the twin Mustang away from the CAF. I'll bet they could have it back flying is short order. After they finish the P-47 project that is....

Visit to Dallas/Fort Worth

Eric,

I am glad you enjoyed your visit to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I was born and raised in Ohio and it was the best day of my life when I settled here in the Fort Worth area. Although the aircraft exhibits and museums are "top notch", I hope you had a chance to experience some of the other wonderful things we have to offer
