F6F Hellcat Summer.

Thu Jan 26, 2012 1:35 pm

in the summmer of 1984, i saw what was to me my first "live" warbird. a F6F Hellcat. i was all of 14 going on 15yo.

(a time of my life i am not getting into here.)

It was not at an airport, nor any kinda static display that i saw this bird but in the air that i saw her, doing aerobatics. yes it was like i had my on personal airshow on the wekends. it was just a 15 miles or so north of Ware Shoals SC, just inside of Anderson County line. if any wix'ers could help me find out the ID of that Hellcat i would b most greatful. thanks in advance. :drink3:

The Hellcat currently owned by Paul Allan's Flying Heritage Collection was flyable and in SC at that time but I have no idea if it was actually being flown or by whom. Do you remember any particularl regarding the paint scheme?

it's so long ago, it's hard to remeber. it never got to close to where i was at except 1 time, and i am not to sure about the exaxt shade's but a light underside, a 2-tone blue uperside and i am not entirely sure but i think a drop tank on the belly. (i am not 100percent on the tank :? )

that is about as much as i have, and that's not saying much. :)

~edit~ i am going to check the Registry here, again and see if anything jog's the memory. :drinkers:

I know the feeling about personal aero shows.

I grew up in Oklahoma, and the Late Great Tom Jones used to use the small grass strip I grew up on as a practice field, I miss him, what an awesome man.
