Paging Jamesintucson

Can you give us an update for whats happening in the restoration shop there at the Pima Air & Space Museum?

Sure I can do that:

The T-38 should be finished getting its repaint next week. We've gone back to its real trainer markings instead of the fake aggressor markings.

The AQM-34 is in primer and will start getting its final paint as soon as the N3N fire bomber is finished in the paint booth.

The F-86E forward fuselage repair is finishing up and the rear fuselage is about to start.

The P-39 wings are making good progress and the fuselage is mostly done.

The SBD just got its horizontal stabs finished and put on and we've begun fabrication and fitting of the vertical.

Lastly we've started reassembly of the Jet Provost.

I think that is it right now.

James - Is the Provost inline for a repaint?

Yes. The Provost will go in for paint once it is reassembled and the T-38 is done.

Thanks for the update James. Anything new with the B-26? How is it coming along?

The Marauder's wings have been getting a little work done on fabricating the leading edges and the landing gear bays but progress is pretty slow. The Havoc is not currently being worked on and has been moved into storage. We decided that since we don't really have the indoor display space for them right now we would focus on the smaller World War II planes that we can fit inside existing buildings.

James, how is the P-47?

Still in storage. It or the P-40N will probably be next after the P-39 is done. I expect we'll probably decide to do the P-40 since it needs significantly less work.

There was one other thing we are working on that I forgot. We've started work on the Vampire center section doing wood repair and recovering it so we can start reassembly on it.

A good plan for sure. Thanks for the updates.

James is the P-40 an N model from Tallichet? If it is, I think I bucked rivets in the fuselage of it years ago.

Jim,
The Vampire is ex-Royal Australian Air Force T.35 serial number A79-661.

MD,
Yes it is the Tallichet P-40N.
