Childress Army Air field

Hi everyone,

Looking for any books or pics about Childress Army Air field during WWII. Looking for any pics of the AT-11's and info about the W.A.S.P's that flew them. We are trying to find out what marking where on our AT-11 when it was there.

We have a few class books in the collection for Childress and many have aircraft serial numbers and buzz numbers but sadly they do not come that close to your AT-11 project aircraft 42-37620. Here are the numbers I have identified in the class books we have:

Since 42-37470 is the latest serial we have and it had a buzz number of 402 I would suspect that your AT-11, 150 aircraft later, would have a higher buzz number than 402 but that is not a certainty. There wasn't much of a correlation between serials and buzz numbers. If you can ever identify your aircraft's buzz number then it will be easier to pick it out in photos.

I was fortunate enough to find the buzz number on my AT-11 project from an accident report. The report had photos of the aircraft showing its from several sides. I see that your AT-11 also has an accident report so maybe the report has photos that will help. If not then it will also give you some names of the pilot and students involved in the accident so you can try and track them down. Maybe you will get lucky and find one of the guys is still alive. I would hurry though, sadly...

We have had about 12 AT-11's come through the shop in one form or another and we have seen and found some interesting markings. One of my mechanics came to me all excited because he found some markings when the light hit it just right. It was the small buzz code on the leading edge of the wing that identified it as Victorville or V-210. With that tidbit of information I was able to find this aircraft pictured in three different Victorville AAF class books. The owner was pretty darn happy too. Too bad it wasn't V-208...
