NAS Wildwood Museum with pics

Thu Jul 28, 2005 9:25 am

Had a chance on Monday to visit the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum located
at the Cape May County Airport in NJ.

The threat of German U-boats at the nearby mouth of the Delaware Bay
and Atlantic Ocean was a main reason for NAS Wildwood’s location.

NAS Wildwood operated from 1943-1946 and was used primarily for dive bomber
and fighter bomber training. 41 pilots and aircrew lost their lives training here in
SBD-5s, SB2Cs, Corsairs, Hellcats, and SNJs.

Housed in a WWII era hanger is the museum’s collection of aircraft and artifacts.
Some of the aircraft that I saw during my brief visit included,

PT-17 (2), BT-13, T-28, L-19, A-4, MiG-15, F-14, T-33 (2), TBM (2).
A few pics below.

Thanks for taking us to a place most of us don't get to stop by. The building looks like a ghost from the past.

Any of the A/C flying or going to be flying (assuming some might be privately owned)

Thanks Bill. I really enjoy seeing that the old WW2 buildings are still around & thats even cooler to be used as a museum.
